Policy development processes - and even more so, final policy results! - vary widely in higher education based on unique governance structures, organizational cultures, and operational needs.  So how do independent institutions in a single system reconcile approaches to policy management?  In this session, policy administrators from sister institutions will share their experience working to harmonize policy programs to achieve individual missions and common goals.

This session explores opportunities both for collaboration and for differentiation among independent institutions within a combined university system.  The focus of the discussion will be on policy structure and process, using substantive policy issues to demonstrate specific points.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe purpose and elements of board and system expectations for campus policy management.
  2. Recognize successes and challenges to achieving consistency in developing processes and policies.
  3. Discuss tools and tips that promote collaboration across campuses and across the system.
