University Policy Mgr & Exec. Sec. to the Board
Old Dominion University
Chair of the Finance Committee
Former Vice Chair of Membership
Since 2008
As a student employee during my undergraduate years at my alma mater (The College of William and Mary), I developed an appreciation for the work that goes on "behind the scenes" of a major university. I was fortunate to be hired at Old Dominion University in 1980 (40 years ago!), first in Academic Affairs to assist with the University's reaccreditation process, and then in the President's Office as the Secretary to our Board. In that position I managed Board policies and was then asked to develop a formal policy review process for university-level polices.
After having attended Cornell University's policy seminar, I became acquainted with ACUPA's earliest founders (Michele Gross, Joshua Adams, T. Michael Ford), who invited me to become more involved in what was then an informal organization. We, along with Bob Schur, Candace Fischbach and Heather Foster, worked together to formally incorporate our organization and create its bylaws, serving as founding members of the Board of Directors.
Completing the 2019 Financial Statements and assisting with the current membership drive by contacting institutions in Virginia to encourage them to join ACUPA.
Old Dominion University has emerged as a world leader in addressing inequality according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020.
The University is ranked in the top 10 nationally and is the only institution in Virginia listed in the ranking designed to assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global call to action to tackle poverty, climate change, and inequality.
