About ACUPA

The Association of College and University Policy Administrators (ACUPA) is an association of professionals established to explore policy processes as well as to discuss specific policy issues. The current ACUPA  membership represents 190 institutions in five countries, comprising a group of committed administrators that has become an extremely valuable resource for discussion, networking, and strengthening our common cause.

Background

ACUPA formed a network to discuss college and university policy and policy process issues. The group, originally known as the "Ivy-Plus" Policy Professionals (IPPP), held its first formal meeting at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in September, 1998. Several individuals that attended the MIT meeting had also gathered at the CAUSE96 Conference in San Francisco, and conferences for several years before that.

Since that time, ACUPA has made great strides.  In 2012, a small group coalesced to plan ACUPA’s first annual conference, which resulted from a collaboration with WACUBO, in Denver.  Attendance and feedback were excellent, and the group worked to focus its efforts to exceed expectations again for the following year. The 2013 ACUPA conference was held in Chicago, in partnership with CACUBO, and the 2014 ACUPA conference was held in Orlando, in cooperation with EACUBO. In 2016, ACUPA hosted its first stand-alone conference, held in Minneapolis, which was so successful that 2017 took ACUPA again to the twin cities for its conference. ACUPA partnered once again with WACUBO in 2018, for its conference in Anaheim, CA. 

Another stand-alone conference will take ACUPA and its members to Atlanta, on May 6-9, 2019.  Save the date!
